Tartan Student-Athletes Shine in CIF-SS Academic Awards

Nine St. Margaret's athletic programs were ranked in the top 10 of their sport enrollment category.
Nine Tartan athletic teams finished among the top 10 in academic achievement, announced by the CIF Southern Section recently. St. Margaret's was well represented by baseball (9th), boys basketball (8th), boys cross country (2nd), boys golf (10th), boys lacrosse (8th), girls lacrosse (4th), boys swimming and diving (2nd), girls tennis (4th) and boys track & field (8th).

To be considered, teams must have a minimum of five student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA average (4.0 scale) in the first semester or first two quarters of the 2019-20 school year. The highest team GPA in each sport category by enrollment determines the winner. Schools are divided into two enrollment categories, 1,500 and above and 1,499 and below. The team with the highest GPA in each enrollment category for each sport receives the award.

"This certainly wasn't the year anybody expected or wanted, but I'm so proud of how our athletes remained focused on their academics. The cancellation of the spring sports season was not something we could control, but remaining committed to a first-class education was," said Director of Athletics Patrick Bendzick. "This year's athletes are a shining example of how to set priorities and overcome adversity. It's a lesson that will always serve them well and one that we will reference for many years to come."
