Tartans Win National Medals in Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

St. Margaret’s students Marie Byun and Amy Shi won national medals for their acclaimed creative work in this year’s Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
The national medalists represent less than 1 percent of the works of art and writing submitted in the contest.
Marie, a junior, won a national silver medal in painting for her piece “Floating Away.”
Amy, a grade 8 student, won a national silver medal in novel writing for her story “Armorial Luck.”
Works that win gold keys at the regional level are considered for national recognition. St. Margaret’s had 22 gold key regional winners in the West Coast At-Large region. In addition to her novel writing honor, Amy also received a regional Gold Key in poetry.
Since 1923, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards has recognized art and writing works in 29 different categories for students grades 7-12. Judges look for work that best exemplify originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.
