Tartan Surf Team Defeats Santa Margarita 57-28

The Tartan surf program notched a 57-28 victory over Santa Margarita Catholic High School on Jan. 12 at 9th Street Beach in Huntington Beach. While 3- to 4-foot waves set up challenging surf conditions in Huntington, the squad was able to find the better waves and maximize their versatility to a solid win.

Jake Vandenburg continued to lead the charge in the shortboard division (1st Place) with his creativity and aggressive turns on the waves. Andrew McAleer once again demonstrated his smooth style in the longboard division, grabbing 3rd place. Benton Barlow had a standout performance, making it to both finals in longboard and shortboard divisions with excellent wave choice and length of rides. Eli Bernstein demonstrated his utility in bodyboarding and short boarding, finding his rhythm in the ocean this weekend.

In the women's divisions, Kennedy Barlow and Skyler Rosenhain caught their fair share of waves and made it to the finals.

"It was a great team effort all the way through," said assistant coach Mick Vollmer. "With Aidan Rooney advancing in his heats, Michael Cuda advancing in his heats in both longboard and shortboard divisions, and Riley Chester shortboarding with great flow and finding ways to connect, it was a great team win in difficult conditions"
