More than 500 members of St. Margaret’s community came together to celebrate the school’s 40th anniversary with a night of fun, fellowship and generous support of the school and its students during the 2019 Forever Plaid: Ruby Anniversary at the Balboa Bay Resort in Newport Beach.
It was a night to both remember St. Margaret’s history and look ahead to its promising future. Attendees pledged support to this year’s Fund A Need, an ambitious Student Commons project
announced at the event which aligns with the school-wide focus on community and student health and wellness. The unveiling kick-started public support for the project, and more than $400,000 was raised to design, program and equip the Student Commons’ fitness center at Forever Plaid.
“Forever Plaid: Ruby Anniversary was a wonderful celebration of all that makes St. Margaret’s special—its past, its present, its future, and all the wonderful people who make up the Tartan community,” Head of School Will Moseley said. “The Parent Teacher Fellowship, led by President Dana Sullivan and event chair Lisa Payne, did an amazing job putting together an event to remember. We are so grateful for their hard work, and thankful for the wonderful generosity showed toward our school and our students.”
The new cocktail-style party format was a huge hit among attendees, who conversed and connected throughout the evening. Among those present were former Heads of School Markham Campaigne (1986-2003) and Marcus Hurlbut (2003-2013) as well as many alumni, current and former Trustees, and faculty past and present.
“The night was one to remember, and there are many dedicated Tartans who helped bring it to life,” PTF President Dana Sullivan said. “Event chair Lisa Payne had a wonderful vision for this evening and worked hard to see it through. She did an amazing job, and led a dedicated team of parent volunteers who put in a lot of work to make this event special.
“We are also so grateful for the attendees, who showed tremendous generosity and support of St. Margaret’s and our children. It was yet another reminder of how special this community is.”

“We also want to give a big thank-you to Danielle Fox and Ali Monge for organizing the Retro Lane display, Michelle Goveia for organizing the ballroom décor, and the St. Margaret’s Advancement office for all of their hard work to help make the evening possible,” Mrs. Payne said.
