St. Margaret's Dominates at Cross Country League Championships
It was all Tartans on the winner's podium after Fridays' Academy League Championship races.
The Tartans swept all four team titles at yesterday's Academy League Championships as the team looked to validate their CIF Southern Section top rankings further.
The boys team was dominant and ran in a controlled pack to take the top 7 spots in the race. Their perfect score of 15 was 47 points better than second-place Sage Hill, and their 1-5 gap of only 20 seconds showed tremendous depth. The group broke apart with just over 800m remaining, and Jackson Adelman accelerated away from teammate Calvin Capelle to capture the league title by just over a second. Adelman continued undefeated in league action and was awarded the Academy League Runner of the Year Award as a result.
The girls team of Liesl Blau, Claire Mullen, Shea Hueston, Charlotte Jones and Madeleine Arundale went 1-3-4-6-7 to solidify a 19 point win over second-place Sage Hill. Kat Collier was the team's 6th runner and finished 8th, putting all of the Tartans in the top 10 of the race. Blau also completed an undefeated league season and was named the Academy League Runner of the Year.
Both JV squads also earned decisive wins. The boys posted a 43 point win over Webb, and the girls posted a 44 point win over Sage Hill. Alex Shen broke away late from teammate Nate Kang for a 4-second win, and Jacqueline Leung went wire-to-wire to post an impressive 1:12 victory. Several athletes from both groups will be brought up to varsity to compete in the CIF Prelims.
The Tartans travel to Riverside on November 16 to start the title defense of their 2018 CIF Southern Section Division V team championships.
