In preparation for our parent meeting this coming Tuesday, October 1st, please help me out with several “MUST DO’s” before we get the season started. Please complete the below items ASAP (ideally so your surfer can bring them to school this Monday to drop off in my classroom or to bring to the Parent Meeting) as they are essential to being a member of the SMES Surf Team:
1)The Transportation Waiver:
All surfers please: PRINT OUT the email attachment “Transportation Waiver” PDF. Fill it out, sign (surfer & parent) and return to me neatly/unfolded.
2)Surfer Information Sheet
All surfers please: PRINT OUT the email attachment “Surfer Information Sheet” PDF. Please fill out carefully and neatly. Then return it to me unfolded.
3) Scholastic Surf Series online form/profile/insurance info etc.:
Click the “Signup and pay for membership” link. (You’ll actually pay $0.00 here)
Check the “St. Margaret's HS 2019/20 Team Membership” box, click again, and follow the prompts.
When complete, please PRINT OUT & bring me the final “Confirmation Page” so I can see that you have successfully filled everything out for the SSS.
4)Open ocean swim assessment/tryout day:
This Thursday, October 3rd, ALL NEW surfers must show up at Salt Creek so Coach Vollmer and I can see your current ability level. (Returning surfers are still welcome to join us!) Meet at 4:00pm, suited up, on the sand at Middles, Salt Creek. Takes 45 min. or so...
5)SMES Concussion Test:
If not already taken for a Fall Sport this year, this must be completed ON CAMPUS before our first surf contest. *More info to come.* (Still trying to check on computer lab availability, but most likely during an upcoming tutorial…)
Notice on the SSS (Scholastic Surf Series) website https://surfsss.org/2019-20-contest-schedule-results/ that our FIRST “Orange County High School” contest is coming up quickly, October 20th. I would like to get in the water as a team for a practice or two (those that are not busy with other Fall SMES sports) the week before the contest, October 15th, 16th or 17th?? I will send out another email with the practice plan, location, etc. as the dates get closer and the conditions/forecast become more accurate.
Assistant Coach Mick Vollmer and I are looking forward to a great surf season and catching some fun waves together with you all. See ya soon!
Adiós & aloha,
Coach “Sr.” Soderin
PS Surfers: Please reply to this email “Got it!”so I know you are taking personal responsibility to complete all (5) of the above essential items ASAP. Parents: PLEASE hold your surfer accountable to replying to my emails and getting all of this taken care of as soon as possible... Cheers!!
