Senior Andi Carnell Commits to Continue her Academic and Athletic Careers at Boston College

Carnell is the 21st Tartan student-athlete to commit to a college or university during the 2018-2019 school year.
St. Margaret's Episcopal School is pleased to announce that Andi Carnell has committed to continue her academic and athletic career at NCAA Division-I Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Carnell, a three-sport athlete at St. Margaret's, will compete in cross country and track and field for the Eagles.

Carnell, recently named OCADA Academy League Athlete of the Year, is a 2017 and 2018 All-CIF and All-State awardee and 2018 All-County selection in cross country. Carnell, who holds every St. Margaret's course record except one, led the Tartans to a 2018 CIF Division IV team cross country championship and CIF State runner-up finish. In soccer, Carnell captained St. Margaret's to the 2019 CIF Socal Regional Championship and was named second team All-CIF in 2018 and 2019. Carnell has the second-fastest 1600m time in school history, winning the 2018 Academy League and reaching the CIF Finals in that event. Carnell also ran to the San Joaquin League title in the 1600m and 3200m in 2019.

Also at St. Margaret's, Carnell is a National Merit Scholar and member of the Cum Laude Society and has volunteered her time with a sustainable development program where she helped build orphanages and a school in Ghana for former child slaves.

Carnell plans on majoring in international business at Boston College.

"Andi quickly became the cornerstone of the cross country program at St. Margaret's after picking up the sport in her junior year. She helped lead our team to the 2018 CIF Southern Section team title and was an integral part of the team's runner-up finish at the California State Championships," said head coach Patrick Bendzick. "The coaching staff actively and purposefully looked for an athlete with the intelligence, work ethic, and social aptitude to lead our team to these lofty goals. Despite the daunting nature of the task at hand, Andi welcomed the challenge and approached each endeavor with poise and conviction. I am confident Andi will continue to lead by example throughout her career."
