St. Margaret's Repeats as Southern Section Girls Lacrosse Champions

The Tartans cruised to a 20-9 victory over Palos Verdes High School.
St. Margaret's claimed back-to-back Southern Section Girls Lacrosse titles on Saturday afternoon, defeating Palos Verdes High 20-9 in the final. The victory marks the third title for St. Margaret's, with wins in 2008 and 2018.

The Tartans jumped out to an early lead, scoring four goals in 40 seconds to open the game with a 4-1 advantage. Taking a comfortable 11-6 lead to start the second half, St. Margaret's again poured it on, going on a six-goal run before a Palos Verde goal cut it at 17-7 Tartans. Tartan netminder Oliva Young made many crucial saves to give St. Margaret's control for the 20-9 win and title.

Offensively, the Tartans were led by Campbell Case (5g, 1a), Maddie Barkate (4g), Niki Miles (3g, 2a) and Grace Karstetter (3g, 1a). Barkate also dominated draw controls, keeping possession firmly in St. Margaret's hands.

"This win was the culmination of the many chapters of our season," said head coach Holly Reilly. "This final chapter, the playoffs, was where we needed to dig in and not walk away with any regrets."

No regrets for the Tartans, as they claim the final U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section Championship. The CIF Southern Section will begin administering the postseason beginning in 2020.

Congratulations, Tartans!
