St. Margaret's Student-Athletes Commit to Top Colleges During Winter National Signing Period

Eight student-athletes from the class of 2019 committed to continue their academic careers and play intercollegiate athletics during the winter signing period.
St. Margaret's Episcopal School is pleased to announce that eight student-athletes from the Class of 2019 committed to play intercollegiate athletics next year during the winter National Signing Day. Seniors Nick Falshaw, Robbie Graham, Alex Lanham, James Mott, Stuart Pollard, Koa Todd, Chris Vartanian and Jack Young will continue their academic pursuits, as well as play their respective sport, at an impressive group of colleges and universities.

These student-athletes will join eight of their classmates who committed during the signing period in the fall.

Nick Falshaw, Washington University in St. Louis

Nick Falshaw, a four-year varsity football team member, has committed to study and play football at NCAA Division-III Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.

Nick was a member of the 2017 Tartan CIF Semifinalist and the 2017 and 2018 league champion football teams and has been named a 2018 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Awardee. As a strong safety, Nick compiled 46 tackles and 24 assists while returning an interception for a touchdown in the 2018 campaign.

Nick has also lettered in track & field was a member of the 2018 U.S. Lacrosse Orange County Champion Tartan lacrosse team.

Nick volunteers his time at Family Assistance Ministries in San Clemente and Brookdale Senior Living Center.

Nick intends on majoring in engineering at Washington University.

Robbie Graham, Colby College

Robbie Graham, a captain of the 2018 CIF State and CIF-SS Champion St. Margaret's cross country program, has committed to study and run cross country at NCAA Division-III Colby College in Waterville, Maine.

Robbie was named All-CIF Southern Section and the 2018 Academy League Runner of the Year en route to helping the Tartans to Southern Section and state titles.

Robbie is a four-year three-sport athlete at St. Margaret's and has served as a co-captain on the soccer team and CIF-SS Finals qualifier in the 3200m on the 2018 CIF-SS Academic Champion Tartan track & field program.

Also at St. Margaret's, Robbie serves as an admission ambassador and peer counselor.

Alex Lanham, Baylor University

Alex Lanham, a four-year member of the Tartan varsity football team, has committed to study and play football at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

Alex was named All-League honorable mention in 2018 and All-League second team in 2017. Alex also competes in track & field at St. Margaret's.

Alex volunteers his time as an acolyte for St. John's Episcopal Church and for Operation Help a Hero, serving to help USMC families during deployments.

Alex intends on majoring in exercise physiology with a minor in nutritional sciences at Baylor.

James Mott, The University of Chicago

James Mott, the 2018 San Joaquin League Offensive Player of the Year, has committed to study and play football at NCAA Division-III The University of Chicago in Chicago, Ill.

James, who has been honored as a 2017 First-Team All-CIF Selection, 2x First Team All-League selection, a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete and 2019 Orange County All-Star, led the Tartans to a 10-2 record this past fall and back-to-back undefeated league records as the team’s quarterback. James also competes for St. Margaret's in baseball.

James volunteers his time at the Laguna Beach Homeless Shelter and intends on majoring in business economics at The University of Chicago.

Stuart Pollard, The College of the Holy Cross

Stuart Pollard, a four-year starting face-off specialist for the Tartan lacrosse program, has committed to study and play lacrosse at NCAA Division-I The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass.

Stuart, a member of the 2018 U.S. Lacrosse Orange County Champion Tartan lacrosse team, has maintained a 68-percent face-off win percentage over his career. Stuart was named First-Team All-Orange County in 2018 and honorable mention in 2017.

At the club level, Stuart has competed for Victory Lacrosse, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Trilogy Lacrosse and the SoCal Express. Stuart competed for the Blue Chip National Team in 2018, winning 80 percent of his face-off draws and has been invited to the National Face-Off Academy Showcase the past three years, earning a top-10 ranking in 2017.

At St. Margaret's, Stuart also competes for the Tartan football program and volunteers his time as an admission ambassador and as a counselor at Special Camp for Special Kids. In the community, Stuart enjoys volunteering at local lacrosse functions and mentoring young players interested in the face-off position.

Stuart intends on majoring in business finance.

Koa Todd, University of Utah

Koa Todd, a four-year varsity lacrosse starter, has committed to study and play lacrosse at NCAA Division-I University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Koa, a member of the 2018 U.S. Lacrosse Orange County Champion Tartan lacrosse team, was named a Second Team All-Orange County Selection in 2018.

At St. Margaret's, Koa was also a mainstay at the linebacker position on the Tartan football team, being named Division IV All-CIF, Third Team All-County, First Team and Defensive Player of the Year of the San Joaquin League and Cal-Hi Sports All-State Selection in 2018.

At the club lacrosse level, Koa competed for the SoCal Express, winning the King of the Hill Tournament in 2017.

Koa volunteers his time as a counselor for Special Camp for Special Kids.

Koa intends on majoring in kinesiology at Utah.

Christopher Vartanian, Washington University in St. Louis

Christopher Vartanian, a four-year starter for the Tartan football program, has committed to study and play football at NCAA Division-III Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.

Christopher, a punter/kicker who earned First Team All-County in 2018, First Team All-CIF in 2017 and First Team All-League honors in 2018 and 2017, averaged 46 yards per punt and was 44 of 48 on extra points and six of 11 on field goals with 52 touchbacks on the year. Christopher has also been named a 2018 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Awardee.

Christopher also competes for St. Margaret's in soccer and has been a four-year starter.

Christopher intends on majoring in economics and finance at Washington University.

Jack Young, Southern Methodist University

Jack Young, a three-year varsity starter in football, has committed to study and play football at NCAA Division-I Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

Jack, who was selected as First Team All-League, contributed 59 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, two interceptions and two defensive touchdowns in 2018.

Also at St. Margaret's, Jack has qualified as a league finalist in track & field in 2018.

Jack has volunteered more than 200 hours of community service with the Lion's Heart Volunteer Organization, Family Assistance Ministries, local food pantries and serving at various events at Camp Pendelton.

Jack Intends on majoring in business at Southern Methodist.

As a result of their leadership, the Tartans have earned five Academy League team championships, two CIF championships and one state championship. In addition, four athletes have been named Academy League MVP, seven All-CIF and three All-State…and we are only at the halfway point of the year," said Director of Athletics Patrick Bendzick. "This is an extraordinary group doing extraordinary things. I couldn’t be more proud or appreciative of their contributions to the school and the Athletic Department.”
