Katherine Parrish Honored by U.S. Congress for MACY Award-Winning Performance
After winning Best Vocal Female at the 2016 MACY Awards this summer, Parrish received another honor Monday—this time from the United States Congress.
It’s been a busy year of recognition for St. Margaret’s senior Katherine Parrish.
Her standout performance in St. Margaret’s spring production of “The Secret Garden” was noticed by many. After winning Best Vocal Female at the 2016 MACY Awards this summer, Parrish received another honor Monday—this time from the United States Congress.
During Upper School Convocation on Monday in Pasternack Field House, Upper School Principal Tony Jordan presented Parrish with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Darrell Issa, who represents California’s 49th district including San Juan Capistrano.
“Congratulations on Being Awarded the Best Vocal Female at the MACY Awards for the Production of ‘The Secret Garden,’” the certificate reads.
The MACY Awards, short for Music and Arts Commendation for Youth, have been awarded to Southern California performing arts students since 1969. MACY directors and judges attend more than 30 shows in Orange, San Diego, Riverside and Los Angeles counties to carefully select winners in a number of categories.
Parrish also won Best Female Vocalist at the 13th Annual Orange County CAPPIES Gala in May for her performance in “The Secret Garden.”
