St. Margaret's Student-Athletes Commit to Top Universities During Spring Signing Period
Four student-athletes from the Class of 2024 will continue their academic and athletic careers at a range of prestigious colleges and universities.
St. Margaret's Episcopal School is proud to announce that four student-athletes from the Class of 2024 have committed to play intercollegiate athletics next year during the spring National Signing Day.
These student-athletes join 13 of their classmates who committed during the signing periods in the fall and winter.
"Our third and final college signing day for the 2023-2024 school year was a pleasure to host. These four athletes and the 13 that signed their college commitments earlier in the school year epitomize what it means to be a Tartan student-athlete," said St. Margaret's Director of Athletics Dan O'Shea. "Their hard work and determination in achieving their goals, coupled with resiliency through the recruiting process, should be widely admired. We look forward to following these future college athletes from afar and in the weeks ahead as our teams battle in the CIF playoffs."
Mark Cyr, The University of Virginia
Mark Cyr, a member of the Tartan track and field program, has committed to continuing his academic and athletic career at NCAA Division-I University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.
Despite the absence of a sanctioned hammer throw event competition in Southern California, Mark garnered the attention of college scouts based on the potential he displayed in practice and in competing in other events. Mark recently set the St. Margaret's discus record with an outstanding throw of 136-11.
Mark was also a four-year member of the St. Margaret's varsity basketball program.
At Virginia, Mark intends to major in business.
Riley Long, Soka University
Riley Long, a four-year varsity soccer starter, has decided to continue her academic and soccer careers at NAIA-member Soka University in Aliso Viejo.
Riley, a goalkeeper and captain for the Tartans, was a CIF Semifinalist in 2021 and was named First-Team All-League in 2022 and 2023, as well as Defensive MVP in 2022. Riley earned Second-Team All-League for her efforts during the Tartans' 23-24 campaign. Riley has also contributed to the cheerleading and swimming & diving programs at St. Margaret’s.
Riley intends to major in liberal arts with a concentration in life sciences at Soka.
Kaitlin McRae, Lewis and Clark College
Kaitlin McRae has decided to continue her academic career and play lacrosse at NCAA Div.-III Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Ore.
Kaitlin, a goalkeeper and four-year Tartan girls lacrosse program member, has led St. Margaret's to Southern Section postseason appearances the last three years. Kaitlin recently surpassed 350 career saves for the Tartans and looks to guide St. Margaret's through the upcoming playoffs.
Kaitlin intends to major in computer science at Lewis and Clark.
Jack Wagner, Oregon State University
Jack Wagner has committed to study and play football at NCAA Division-I Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore.
Jack, an integral part of the Tartan offensive line, served as a team captain in 2023. Jack allowed no sacks this past fall and was named Orange Coast League Lineman of the Year as well as a First-Team All-League team member. Jack also participated in the Orange County North-South All-Star Classic this past February.
In his free time, Jack has volunteered with the St. Margaret's Church infant pantry program and the Upper School Academic Mentoring Program.
