Tartan Surf Team Wraps up Scholastic Surf Series Competition

Freshman Brendon Lyons nabbed gold despite less-than-ideal weather conditions.
Amidst heavy rain and challenging wind conditions, the Tartan surf team showcased resilience in their final Scholastic Surf Series competition at the San Clemente Pier. The day was dedicated to honoring the five graduating seniors—Charlie Denham, Heidi Tufo, Jack Tomlinson, Tyler Mears, and Blake Scheel—as they bid farewell to their Tartan surfing careers.

With the adverse weather, the Tartans faced a formidable challenge in seeking out scoring-worthy waves. Nonetheless, their determination shone through. Sophomore Nick Fox kicked off the day's events with a commendable performance in the bodyboard competition, securing a respectable 6th place overall. League leader Charlie Denham clinched 5th place in the men's shortboard category.

Freshman Bendon Lyons delivered a standout performance, achieving his personal best of the season by claiming 1st place overall in the men's shortboard division—a tremendous feat under the circumstances. Senior Heidi Tufo showcased her tenacity, battling her way to the finals and ultimately securing 6th place in the women's longboard category.

Additionally, Peyton Cruse exhibited her skills by securing 5th place in the women's shortboard division, further solidifying the Tartan surf team's impressive showing.
