St. Margaret's Girls Lacrosse Triumphs Late Over Mater Dei

A back-and-forth second half ended on the right note for the Tartans.
The Tartan girls lacrosse program picked up a huge win over visiting Trinity League foe Mater Dei Tuesday, defeating the Monarchs 19-18 after some late-game heroics.

St. Margaret's had to battle back against a five-goal deficit in the first half to head into the halftime period knotted at 10-10. The second half proved more of the same as the Tartans scored eight goals in the third quarter before embarking on a back-and-forth battle in the fourth quarter. Scarlett Welsome (5g, 3a) netted the eventual game-winner with 58 seconds left to play. The Monarchs quickly attempted to answer, winning the resulting draw and storming into St. Margaret's end. Mater Dei found themselves with a free position shot with 20 seconds left on the game clock, but Tartan goaltender Kaitlin McRae pulled out a phenomenal save to seal the win for St. Margaret's.

McKenzie Farley led for the Tartans, tallying 9 goals and an assist, while Grace Burke added 2 goals and 2 assists in the win. Greta Blau (1g, 1a), Elise Peffer (1g) and Avery Smith (1g) were bright spots for the Tartans.

The 5-3 Tartans take on Trinity League opponent Santa Margarita at home on Thursday, March 21 at 4:30 p.m.
