Girls Tennis

The Tartans picked up an 11-7 non-league victory against Capistrano Valley High School Tuesday afternoon, improving to 2-1 on the year.

Angela Liu won all three singles sets (6-1, 6-0, 6-1), while Fiona Bonilla Duncan (6-4, 6-2) and Emily Kim (6-0, 6-0) won two to propel the Tartans past the Cougars. The doubles teams of Rylee Carlson/Emily Guerinot and Alexa Edwards/Caitlin Roberts both won two out of their three doubles sets.

"It was another good team win for the girls. The singles players really played well and won some key sets for us," said head coach Scott Lipsky. "Capo Valley had a solid No. 1 doubles team, but it was nice to see the doubles teams take care of business against the other two Cougar teams. We have one more non-league match on Thursday against San Juan Hills, which will be a good challenge. We are getting better and better each match and should be ready for a strong league season."

Girls Volleyball

St. Margaret's girls volleyball program recorded its second Orange Coast League win of the season, defeating Santa Ana 3-0 Tuesday at home.

The Tartans' hitting percentage was a key to victory and was a season-high .422. Freshman Ella Massoudi had 17 kills on 22 swings while hitting a .636. Senior captain Carly Grumet added six kills on 13 attempts with zero errors, while middle attackers Maya Reddy and Chloe Wainwright contributed seven kills. Sarah MacDonald rounded out the Tartan effort, leading with a 2.33 (3 pt scale) passing average.

"The team played efficiently in a straight-set win over Santa Ana," said head coach Bob Yoder. "Setters Mimi Spangler and Ana Cormac had solid games initiating our attack, which kept the Saints on the back heel all game."

The Tartans take on Saddleback High School on Thursday, Sept. 13 at home at 6 p.m.
