St. Margaret's Boys Lacrosse and Boys Golf are CIF-SS Academic Team Champions

The Tartans had three top-three finishers and numerous honorable mentions in the annual awards.
Three of St. Margaret's athletic teams finished among the top in academic achievement, as the CIF Southern Section announced in March. The Tartan boys lacrosse and boys golf programs were crowned CIF Academic Champions with girls beach volleyball finishing third. Receiving honorable mentions were; baseball, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls cross country, football, girls lacrosse, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls swimming, boys and girls tennis, boys and girls track and boys and girls volleyball.

The Tartans were recognized on April 22 at Anaheim Stadium before the Angels took on the Baltimore Orioles.

"Winning this award shows how intelligent, hard-working, and organized our varsity golf players are. Playing golf is all about multi-tasking. It requires strategizing one's approach to each hole, accounting for factors like weather conditions, pin placement, hazards, and the play of one's opponent. Maintaining a high GPA while also winning league championships is just another example of how well our players can multi-task and manage their time," said St. Margaret's boys golf head coach Danny Solarz. "I am so proud of each of their accomplishments, on the course and off."

To be considered, teams must have a minimum of five student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA average (4.0 scale) in the first semester or first two quarters of the 2023-2024 school year. The highest team GPA in each sport category by enrollment determines the winner. Schools are divided into two enrollment categories: 1,500 and above and 1,499 and below. The team with the highest GPA in each enrollment category for each sport receives the award.

"I'm extremely proud of the commitment our players have made to being well-rounded student-athletes. To have a group of guys that are both balancing the ability to compete at the highest level with exceptional academic achievement is fantastic," said boys lacrosse head coach Brian Kelly. "We place a high value on making a positive impact in every aspect of our school community."
