The Tartans season ended on Tuesday with the South Coast Divisional where the Tartans shot a 406. Yuki Bannai had a 76; Michael Etchandy 79; Kevin Guo 80; Graden Huang 83 and Brendan Kong 88. Overall, the score put us in 11th place beating many larger neighboring public schools. The winning school was University with a 374 that narrowly defeated the second place team Foothill by a single stroke with a 374-375 win. These two teams will compete on Thursday May 16 for the team championship against twelve other 1st or 2nd place Divisional winners.
Yuki Bannai finished 5 over par shooting a 77 at the CIF-SS Individual Regional finishing 41st out of a field of 116 golfers. The cut was two over par 74 to advance to the CIF-SS Individual Championship. Yuki was the low golfer from our league at the tournament. Michael Etchandy, the other Tartan in the tournament had a difficult day on the greens and also missed the cut.
The CIF-SS Team Divisional for the Tartans is scheduled for Tuesday May 14th at Talega Golf Club with a 7:30 shotgun. The top two teams from the Divisional wil advance to the Team Championship on Thursday May 16th.
At the end of 36 holes of golf over a two-day period, St. Margaret’s captured two of the four CIF-SS Individual Playoff spots allocated to our league. Yuki Bannai and Michael Etchandy finished first and second Runner-up to earn First Team All- League in addition to qualifying for Monday 6 May CIF-SS Individual Sectional at Skylinks Golf Course in Long Beach.
St. Margaret’s earned five post season All League Honors with Jack Wojcik being recognized as All- League Honor Mention; Kevin Guo and Graden Huang Second Team All- League and Michael Etchandy and Yuki Bannai All League.
In addition to the Individual CIF-SS on Monday, the Team as Co-Champions earned a Team spot at the CIF-SS South Coast Divisional Championship at Talega Golf Club on Tuesday 14 May.
Four Tartans shot in the 30s in the loss. Freshman Graden Huang had three bogeys and two birdies in posting a one over par round of 36; Yuki Bannai carded a two over par round of 37 with three birdies; Michael Etchandy had two birdies in his round of 38; Kevin Guo carded 39 and Jack Wojcik was the fifth scorer with a 43.
Led by Michael Etchandy and Yuki Bannai's scores of 31, the Tartans beat Tarbut V' Torah167-209. Jack Wojcik Carded a 34; Graden Huang shot 33; and Kevin had a 38 on the par 30 executive Newport Beach Golf Course. With the win the Tartans improved to 7-5 and 6-1 in league play.
Michael Etchandy had an even par round of 32; Yuki Bannai shot four over for a 36; Kevin Guo was 8 over par for a 40, Jack Wojcik was nine over par for a 41 and Carter Stam was the final scoring Tartan with a 47.
Yuki Bannai shot a three under par round of 32. Yuki’s round include three birdies and no bogeys. Kevin Guo shot a nifty 36 with two bogeys and a birdie. Graden Huang carded a six over par round of 41. Brendan Kong had a 45 and Jack Wojcik had a 46 in the win over Saddleback Valley Christian.
The win was especially nice since the number one golfer, Michael Etchandy was not present during the match.. So they all played for the team win.
The Tartans shot their lowest round of the season in a win over Capistrano Valley Christian. Freshman Graden Huang shot even par 35 with two birdies and two bogeys. His tee shot into the par 3 Seventh Hole was nearly an ace- just missing the cup and coming to rest just six inches past the hole. Junior Kevin Guo had consecutive birdies on holes Five and Six to shot a three over par round of 38. Yuki Bannai also had two birdies in shooting 38. Michael Etchandy, fighting a cold, had one birdie enroute to a 39. Culminating the scoring for the team was Senior Jack Wojcik who carded a nifty 42.
Next up for the Tartans is another league match, this time against Saddleback Valley Christian at Talega on Thursday March 28th.
The Tartans as a team played some solid golf at the Talega Golf Club shooting 201. Michael Etchandy birdied the first two holes in recording a 37. Yuki Bannai shot 39. Jack Wojcik had a birdie and finished par-par on the difficult 8th and 9th holes to record a 41. Kevin Guo and Graden Huang both recorded 42s in the win. Next up is CVCS at Marbella Country Club on Tuesday 26 March.
Brendan Kong shot his best round in a match this season helping the Tartans defeat the Saints at Bella Collina. Other contributors were Yuki Bannia42; Michael Etchandy 43; Kevin Guo 44 and Graden Huang 46. With the win the Tartans improved to 2-4; 1-1
For the first time this season the Tartans broke 200 in their win against Pacifica Christian OC. Yuki Bannai shot 36 with two birdies, Freshman Graden Huang and Junior Kevin Guo both shot 39s; Jack Wojcik carded a solid 40 with a 20 foot par saving putt on number 7; and Michael Etchandy rounded out the scoring in the win. The Tartans improve to 1-4 and 1-1 in league.
In very cold and breezy conditions, the Tartans travelled to Strawberry Farms to play Sage Hills. In an extremely close match, Michael Etchandy shot a brilliant 33 with three birdies and six pars. Yuki Bannai birdied the final two holes- and nearly eagled the eighth hole-for a one over par round of 37. Kevin Guo shot a solid round of 39 with six pars and 3 bogeys; Graden Huang shot 42 and Jack Wojcik rounded out the scoring in the league opener.
Yuki Bannai and Michael Etchandy both carded one over par rounds of 36. Michael had 3 bogeys and two birdies while Yuki had one bogey and eight pars. Kevin Guo shot 40 and Freshman Graden Huang had 42. Rounding out the scoring players was Jack Wojcik which combined for a five man total of 202. The Tartans lost on the sixth players score.
The medalist for the match was Caden McMackin from JSerra who shot a 34 with one birdie and eight pars.
