St. Margaret's picked up two quality wins to open the season, squaring up against two top inter-divisional foes this past week.

Against Dana Hills High School, the Tartans were led by the strong defensive effort of senior captain Kevin Groeninger in a back-and-forth battle. It took until the final 15 minutes for the Tartans to strike gold with senior Robbie Graham finding the back of the net. Sean Sullivan quickly followed suit, notching a goal with eight minutes left to play, sealing the game, 2-0, for St. Margaret's.

Next on the docket for the Tartans was cross-town rival San Juan Hills on Wednesday. From the starting whistle, the Tartans applied pressure and created several early chances including a goal that was disallowed at six minutes in. Senior Luke Linaweaver found the net at the 25th minute, completely shifting the momentum to St. Margaret's side. Senior Chris Vartanian held the back line and prevented San Juan Hills from generating any serious scoring opportunities while Dean Chong led the midfield play for the Tartans. Tomas Anderson Comas, Robbie Graham and Sean Sullivan were shifty up top and created 16 clear chances throughout the game. With the 1-0 win, the Tartans have improved to 2-0 on the year and will face Tustin High School at home on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m.

The Tartans traveled to match up with St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy on Tuesday, coming away with a solid 7-0 victory. St. Margaret's was kept relatively quiet in the first half by an aggressive St. Pius offside trap scheme. Taylor Nock opened the scoring for the Tartans, hitting a beautiful volley from an Ella Kang corner followed by Jasper Adams playing a give-and-go from Lauren Otterbein, setting up a 2-0 lead at halftime. After a few adjustments along with a bit of persistence, the Tartans kept the Warriors pinned down in their own half and kept constant pressure throughout the second half which led to a plethora of goals. Juliet Ballard (2g 1a), Allie Binder (2g), Ella Kang (1g 2a), Taylor Nock (1g), Jasper Adams (1g), Audrey Larson (1a), Lauren Otterbein (1a) and Julia Olosky (1a) all found the scoresheet for the Tartans.

St. Margaret's will return to the pitch Saturday, Dec. 1, competing in the Francis Parker Tournament in San Diego. Go Tartans!
