Tartans Take Home Two Titles at CIF Southern Section Finals
Both Tartan Cross Country teams were crowned Div. V champs on Saturday.
St. Margaret's swept the competition at Saturday's CIF Southern Section Division V Cross Country Finals, returning to the winner's podium for the first time since 2012 for the boys, and for the first time in school history for the girls.
The boys controlled the field all afternoon, turning in an impressive 65-111 effort, beating out perennial powerhouse Flintridge Prep. The Tartans were led by sophomore Jackson Adelman, nabbing the Div. V Individual Championship with a time of 15:31.4. Adelman and fellow runner Robbie Graham (15.58.2) were named All-CIF for their stellar performances.
On the girl's side, St. Margaret's narrowly ended Flintridge Prep's dominance 78-89, cementing the school's first title in Cross Country. Andi Carnell (18.24.9) notched her second consecutive All-CIF honor while Charlotte Jones (19.28.3), Claire Mullen (19.30.7) and Julia Martin (19:33.8) kept pace for the Tartans.
“Winning two CIF Championships in one day is an extraordinary accomplishment made possible by an extraordinary group of athletes. We spend every practice, race and team event together, so it’s only fitting that they share in this honor," said head coach Patrick Bendzick. "The coaching staff could not be more proud of how they support each other and we are looking forward to carrying this momentum into the California State Championships.”
With the win, St. Margaret's advances to the CIF State Championships on Saturday, November 24 in Fresno. The Tartans look to build on Saturday's success and improve upon their showing at last year's state meet.
