Tartan Tee-Off Raises $120,000 for Financial Aid

The event included lunch, a $10,000 putting challenge, 18 holes of golf, a 19th-hole networking reception, dinner and an awards presentation featuring moving remarks by Freddy Valencia '10 on the impact of St. Margaret’s Financial Aid program to his life.
The Tartan Tee-Off welcomed over 120 players, volunteers, staff and committee members to a full day of events at Monarch Beach Golf Links last week. The annual St. Margaret’s golf tournament raised nearly $120,000 in support of need-based student financial aid.

The event included a lunch, a $10,000 putting challenge sponsored by Integrated Innovative Health, 18 holes of golf, two Hole in One contests sponsored by Audi Mission Viejo and Volvo Cars Mission Viejo,  a 19th-hole networking reception sponsored by Lugano Diamonds, dinner and an awards presentation featuring remarks by Freddy Valencia ‘10. Mr. Valencia spent time with St. Margaret’s students on campus in the morning, then played in the tournament, and finally spoke to guests about his experience at St. Margaret’s as a financial aid recipient. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in chemical biology at Harvard University.

Following the tournament, golfers met up at the 19th-hole networking reception sponsored by Lugano Diamonds, which included dinner and awards program. Among those honored were:

Overall Women’s – 1st Place: Kristina Chatow, Channing Freeman, Alixandra McCracken and Allison Schauppner
Overall Men’s – 2nd Place: John Barber, Bradley Barlow, Macon Brock, Robert Healy
Overall Women's – 2nd Place: Karen Gilbert, Wendy Mattox, Susie McCollom, Denise McGraw
