Tartan Cross Country Squads Tackle Mt. SAC

The famed Mt. SAC racecourse is always a proving ground for cross country teams with championship aspirations. For St. Margaret’s, it marks the point in the season when both teams start to fine-tune their racing in preparation for the postseason.

The Tartans easily won the girls race with a near perfect score of 20. Andi Carnell proved once again that she is one of the best in the state by breaking away at the halfway mark and gapping the second place runner by almost 40 seconds in just over a mile.

But it was the team depth that secured the decisive win. Claire Mullen (4th) led the trio of Kat Collier (6th), Shea Hueston (8th) and Charlotte Jones (9th) to put all of the scoring runners in the top 10.

The boys produced almost identical results behind the wire-to-wire win of Jackson Adelman. The team posted a 51 point win over second place North Tahoe behind the stellar running of Robbie Graham (2nd), Calvin Capelle (4th), Chris Chan (7th) and Matt Colglazier (10th).

“I can’t say that we had a perfect week of training, but the coaching staff was very impressed with the team’s performance today. They willingly accepted the challenge of putting together a complete 1-7 race and showed tremendous resilience. We needed today as a way to shift the focus to the postseason, and they delivered in every conceivable way”, stated head coach Patrick Bendzick.

Next up for the Tartans are the Academy League Championships on November 2nd at Irvine Park in Orange. Both teams have sole possession of first place, with a sizable lead over rival Sage Hill.
