Nicole Riscica Named Head Girls Basketball Coach at St. Margaret’s

Nicole Riscica has been named the new head girls basketball coach at St. Margaret’s, effective immediately.
Riscica will replace head coach Lori Fava, who will move into support role as she devotes more time to family needs.

Riscica, formerly the head varsity girls basketball coach at San Juan Hills High School, also coached softball for the Stallions and currently is a coach at the club level for Cal Sparks South and OC Magic. Riscica competed for NCAA Division-III State University of New York at Brockport in basketball, serving as a team captain and being named to the SUNYAC All-Academic Team. She brings many years of experience in coaching and athletic administration to St. Margaret's.

"Coach Riscica brings a wealth of knowledge as a former collegiate basketball player, head coach, athletic director, and educator. She truly understands the mission of the school and the high expectations of the department," said Patrick Bendzick, St. Margaret’s director of athletics and physical education. "We are excited to welcome her to the St. Margaret’s family and look forward to seeing her positive influence as we enter one of the toughest girls basketball leagues in the county."

“The passing of my father-in-law earlier this month created the need to shift more of my focus to our family as we assume the primary care responsibilities for my mother-in-law,” Fava said. “The girls basketball program has always emphasized the importance of being a family and that connection never ends for any of the players or coaches. The same is true for our own families and stepping in during a time of need is unquestionably the right thing to do. As I step back and take a much lesser role in the program, please know I will be supporting Coach Riscica and Coach (Veronica) Johns-Richardson in whatever they may need; whether that is on the court, or behind the scene with administrative help.”

“Coach Fava has been a foundational member of the coaching staff and athletic department since 2006,” Bendzick said. “In that time, she has made countless sacrifices for the good of the program and we look at this situation as an opportunity to repay the favor. I admire her dedication to her family and the willingness to always lead by example. We fully support her decision and appreciate her continued work with the program as time allows.”
