Tartans Perform National Anthem at Angels Game—See the Video and Photos!

The rendition featured St. Margaret’s grade 6 band, grade 7 band, the grade 8-12 concert band and the Upper School jazz ensemble.
St. Margaret’s band students had an unforgettable performance on Saturday, playing “The Star-Spangled Banner” in front of tens of thousands of fans to open the Los Angeles Angels game at Angel Stadium.

The Angels reached out to St. Margaret’s band director Chris Carbajal and invited the Tartans to perform. The rendition featured St. Margaret’s grade 6 band, grade 7 band, the grade 8-12 concert band and the Upper School jazz ensemble. They spent two weeks rehearsing in class, and performed alongside bands from other Orange County schools before Saturday’s game.

“The arrangement was the official armed forces arrangement that our military uses, which is especially challenging to learn,” band director Chris Carbajal said. “Playing in a stadium provides an added acoustic challenge as well, and there was a significant delay from the sound system speakers to our ears. The students did a phenomenal job and their performance sounded amazing. I am so proud of them.”

The bands conducted a final rehearsal in the Angel Stadium parking lot before the game, then entered onto the field through “Tunnel A” and watched the Angels warm up on the field. They performed in the outfield, then stayed to watch the game with their families.

“It was such an amazing experience for all of us,” Mr. Carbajal said. “I hope that we can do it again.”
