Breakthrough SJC Students Visit National Parks for Unforgettable Experiential Learning

The students learned more about California’s various ecosystems and took part in activities ranging from hiking to photography.
Students in St. Margaret’s Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano program participated in a memorable experiential learning opportunity this month, when 18 rising sophomores took a six-day adventure to several national parks and other California landmarks.

The trip was funded by Birthright America, a foundation that helps provide low-income students the opportunity to explore America’s national parks.

The Breakthrough students visited Joshua Tree National Park, Sequoia National Park, Kings Canyon National Park and Monterey Bay, making several stops in between at museums and state parks. The students learned more about California’s various ecosystems, from deserts to the Sierra Nevada mountains to the Pacific Ocean marine life, and took part in activities ranging from hiking to photography.
