Tartans Dominate in 51-0 Win at Excelsior Charter

St. Margaret's put up big numbers in the road win.
The Tartans traveled to Victorville to take on Excelsior Charter Saturday afternoon and came away with a decisive 51-0 victory.

St. Margaret's defense again rose to the occasion, pitching a shutout for the second straight game. Senior defensive lineman Jack Young had a breakout game, contributing a sack, two tackles and an interception return for a touchdown. Junior Sean Sullivan also was a star for the defensive unit with four tackles, two sacks and two tackles for a loss. Rounding out the Tartan's relentless defense was junior Robbie Healy (2T, 2A and 2TFL) and senior Langston Sholl (2T, 1A and 1TFL). Defensive backs Alex Smith and Jake Black notched interceptions for the Tartans.

Held to seven points in its last outing, the Tartan offense was ready to roll and prove last week was a fluke. Senior quarterback James Mott seized the opportunity, completing 8/13 passes for 119 yards and three touchdowns on the night. Senior running backs Alex Lanham and Koa Todd were effective on the ground, combining for 84 yards and a touchdown each. At the wideout positions, seniors Alex Smith (3/33, 2TD) and Will Riddle (2/40, 1TD) kept the momentum firmly on St. Margaret's side. St. Margaret's veteran kicker, Chris Vartanian, was solid all evening, nailing six extra points and a 33-yard field goal.

With the win, the Tartans improve to 2-0 in CIF-SS Division VI. Friday, August 31 is definitely a red-letter date on the calendar for St. Margaret's as the team heads to Grace Brethren to avenge last year's 35-13 mid-season loss. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
