Later Start Time is Here! New Schedule Launches in Just 5 Days

The new schedule is the first major step toward important student health and wellness initiatives, which will be a school-wide focus of the coming year.

The long-awaited launch of St. Margaret’s new school schedule is just days away as the 2018-2019 school year opens Wednesday. The new schedule is the first major step toward important student health and wellness initiatives, which will be a school-wide focus of the coming year.

The schedule is the result of a year-long, in-depth analysis and redesign, which included student, faculty and parent input, grounded in student health and wellness, strategic academic priorities and ongoing innovation.

Importantly, school begins 30 minutes later at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, the first day of school, and every day throughout the year. The later start time is designed to increase sleep for students and provide additional opportunities for morning faculty collaboration.  School will end at 3:10 p.m. for Lower School – Upper School students, with Preschool ending at 2:40 p.m.

Additional features of the new schedule include:
-        Improved consistency and predictability in daily structure
-        Reduction in the number of classes each day and class-to-class transitions
-        New daily breaks and consistent lunch times
-        Doubled advisory time in the Upper School
-        Addition of a mid-morning tutorial time and alignment of afternoon tutorial times with athletic dismissals
-        New Innovation Block in the Upper School designed for service learning and additional innovative learning experiences

A full explanation of the features of the new schedule and redesign process can be found here.  Please click here for a copy of the Middle School Block Schedule.  Click here for a copy of the Upper School Block Schedule.  Students will receive additional information and guidance about the new schedule at new student orientations on Monday, and during the first weeks of school.
