PTF Funds Exciting New Educational Grants for 2018-2019

The grants are funded through annual PTF events and programs, including the Online Auction, the Library Luncheon, the Book Fair, and a portion of the funds from the All-School Fundraiser.
St. Margaret’s Parent Teacher Fellowship approved more than $235,000 in grants this school year, which will serve to enrich the entire Tartan community immediately and for the future.

The grants are funded through annual PTF events and programs, including the Online Auction, the Library Luncheon, the Book Fair, and a portion of the funds from the All-School Fundraiser. The spring 2018 grant cycle includes general grants requested by faculty and staff, the continuation of standing grants and restricted funds.

Among the grants approved:

  • The Lower School received a grant for the development of a kindergarten and grade 1 outdoor student classroom adjacent to the Lower School classrooms, which will be completed this summer. Kindergarten classrooms will be relocated to the Lower School this summer in time for the start of the 2018-2019 school year.
  • Athletics received a grant to further develop its virtual reality sports training program, which will include the purchase of software to help student-athletes train.
  • A PTF grant will fund grade 6 books as part of the Reader’s Workshop program, which is being expanded into the Middle School.
  • A grant was approved for the virtual reality empathy project, a cultural competency initiative.
  • Resources for visual arts (Wacom Cintiq drawing screen and stand), science (Arduino microcontroller, robotics and sensor sets) and technology (digital cameras) were all granted.
The PTF also approved the continuation of standing grants for Special Camp for Special Kids, Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano, Lower School Core Council, Middle School ASB, Upper School ASB and financial aid.

There are two grant cycles each year. The first cycle is in the fall semester and are funded in January so the granted items can get into the classroom during the second semester of the school year. The second grant cycle is in the spring and awards grants that can be used starting the following fall semester.
