Upper School Students Participate in National Day of Silence

St. Margaret’s involvement, which was led by the Upper School Alliance Club, represents a broader focus on nurturing an inclusive community committed to equity and justice so all students feel known, loved and included.
St. Margaret’s Upper School students participated in the nationwide Day of Silence last week, a student-led event for the LGBTQ community and its allies to raise awareness on the importance of valuing and respecting individuals regardless of gender identity, gender expression or sexual orientation.

St. Margaret’s involvement, which was led by the Upper School Alliance Club, represents a broader focus on nurturing an inclusive community committed to equity and justice so all students feel known, loved and included.

The Alliance organized a panel of St. Margaret’s adults who, as allies or members of the LGBTQ community, shared perspectives, experiences and observations with the goal of increasing empathy and understanding. The panel was moderated by St. Margaret’s senior and Alliance member Ayla Fox.

In addition, many students wore red to support Day of Silence, and consistent with the nationwide initiative, some students vowed to stay silent for the entire day to bring attention to the challenges LGBTQ youth face in schools.
