Three Tartans Named All-CIF in Soccer

Lauren McCaffrey, Ella Kang, John Leasure earned All-CIF Honors for the 2017-2018 season.
St. Margaret’s girls soccer players Lauren McCaffrey and Ella Kang, and boys soccer player John Leasure were all named to the All-CIF team for their play during the 2017-2018 season.

McCaffrey picked up her second All-CIF selection on top of a second consecutive Academy League MVP award, leading the Tartans in assists with 15 and scoring five goals as an outside defender in 2017-2018. McCaffrey, who will play at NCAA Division-I Northwestern University in the fall, leaves behind a St. Margaret's career total 42 goals and 48 assists.

"A tough, physical style of play found McCaffrey completely dominating the opposing forward on her side of the pitch,” girls soccer coach Johnny Marmelstein said. “Her attacking ability made it very difficult for other teams to keep their shape defensively as her deep forays into the attacking third unbalanced even the most disciplined defenses."

Kang finished her sophomore season as the team's leading scorer with 15 goals and 11 assists. "A skillful, creative artist, Kang’s ability to break down defenses on the dribble or by her adept passing ability made her an attacking force that demanded the best from the opposition," Marmelstein said.

John Leasure, meanwhile, earns All-CIF honors to go with his Academy League MVP and a 1st Team All-League selection. He contributed 13 goals and 20 assists. Boys Head Coach Adam Doty said, "John Leasure's offensive awareness and ball control have made it tough for high-ranked teams to shut him down. John has a knack for consistently producing goals and assists."
