PHOTOS: Middle School Artists Make Colorful Mural Out of Salvaged Locker Doors

The 2017 Honors Art Club turned the locker doors into a mural, and the art found its permanent home when it was installed in the hallway outside the Middle School principals’ offices.
A row of old locker doors salvaged from the previous Middle School building has found a new home—after a beautiful touch-up from 11 Middle School artists.

The 2017 Honors Art Club turned the locker doors into a mural, and the art found its permanent home when it was installed in the hallway outside the Middle School principals’ offices.

Next to the installed mural is a sign crediting the artists who worked on the piece—Anais Arntsen, Roy Cheng, Mari Edler, Ava Flornes, Mark Gonzalez, Sabrina Kim, Parisa Khashayar, Brady Moseley, Jordan Reder, Annabel Thiel and Celeste Taylor.  Several of them gathered to see the installed mural, reflect on the process and have a celebration lunch this week.

“They worked on it each week for an entire semester, and they did a fantastic job,” said art teacher Phillip Griswold, who sponsored the club.

The mural was sketched out in pencil on the lockers, then the doors were taken apart and each student was tasked with painting one section. The art incorporates familiar parts of St. Margaret’s campus, from the archway to the Performing Arts Center to the Middle School, with bursts of colors portraying a sunset sky and other goodies like a swallow and a scottie dog scattered throughout.
