PHOTOS: Health and Wellness Expo Teaches Students About Nutritious Choices

St. Margaret’s students gathered last week to taste healthy foods, engage in wellness activities and learn more about the impact each can make on the human body during the 5th annual Health and Wellness Expo in Campaigne Center.

Students from kindergarten through grade 12 visited 10 different booths to taste-test a variety of foods and learn more about the health benefits of them.

The partner vendors who shared their expertise and samples included Sapphire, Basanti Restaurant, Artesian Bakery, C2O Coconut Water, Rise Bar, Hint Water and Sprouts. Some of the topics student were able to explore included the benefits of turmeric, essential oils, antioxidants and juicing.

“We organize the Health and Wellness Expo to create an opportunity for students to learn more about healthy choices available to them,” said All-School Counselor Janice Avalone, who organized the event. “We are so grateful to the vendors that have donated their food and time to educating our students on the importance of healthy eating.”

In addition, new this year was a virtual-reality wellness application that allowed students to experience the calming effect of a natural setting and the “awe” of quickly transporting themselves to an outdoor environment.

St. Margaret’s Strategic Plan calls for the development of health and wellness programs that support nutrition, fitness, rest and emotional and spiritual well-being.

“The Health and Wellness Expo is another tangible example of St. Margaret’s commitment to the well-being of our students in mind, body and spirit,” said Assistant Head of School for Strategic Initiatives Ryan Dahlem.
