Tartans Excel at Boston College Model UN Conference

The nine St. Margaret’s students participated in committees ranging from the World Health Organization to UNICEF to the International Court of Justice.
Nine Upper School students represented St. Margaret’s Episcopal School at the EAGLE MUNC Model United Nations Conference last weekend in Boston, debating and simulating a number of real-world political topics with more than 650 students from 51 schools across the country.

The nine St. Margaret’s students—juniors Joey Westendorf, Declan Landau, Bella Karahalios and Andrew Ahn, sophomores Jacqueline Leung and Caroline Ullem and freshmen Kaelyn Dunnell, Victor Marron and Seychelle Balog—participated in committees ranging from the World Health Organization to UNICEF to the International Court of Justice.

The Tartans researched and debated issues both past and present for the event, which is organized by Boston College undergraduates.

Declan Landau earned a gavel as Best Delegate for his work in the Chinese Land Reform committee, while Joey Westendorf (International Court of Justice) and Bella Karahalios (Venezuelan National Assembly) each received Outstanding Delegate honors.

The students also had a little downtime to explore the rich historical sites of Boston, such as Faneuil Hall, Boston Common and the Old State House.
