Former NFL Linebacker Kory Minor Named St. Margaret's Head Football Coach

St. Margaret's announces the appointment of Kory Minor as head coach and Nate Longshore as offensive coordinator of the Tartans football program.
St. Margaret's Episcopal School announces today the appointment of Kory Minor as head coach of the Tartans football program. A former NFL linebacker and special-teams standout, Coach Minor led the Tartans defensive unit during the 2017 season as an assistant coach. Under his direction, the Tartans held opponents to only 11 passing touchdowns, 13 rushing touchdowns and a 37 percent passing completion rate in 13 games. Mr. Minor also heads St. Margaret's student-athlete leadership program and provides student and family guidance in the college-athletic recruiting process.

"As an assistant coach at St. Margaret's, Kory has established himself as one of the most influential leaders on our campus and in Southern California football. His magnetic personality and stellar understanding of the game will create an atmosphere that masterfully blends high expectations with a love of the game," St. Margaret's Director of Athletics and Physical Education Patrick Bendzick said.

Coach Minor played college football at the University of Notre Dame. He is first all-time in career tackles for loss (43.5) and second all-time for career sacks (22.5) at Notre Dame. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 1999 and also played for the Carolina Panthers.

"I am very excited and eager to serve as head coach at St. Margaret's and build on the longstanding Tartan reputation and tradition of excellence and commitment to the development of the scholar-athlete," Coach Minor said. "My focus will continue to be to put Tartan student-athletes in a position to be successful on and off the field, whether that's in helping an athlete improve their performance or navigate what it means to be a young man in today's world."

St. Margaret's also announces the addition of Nate Longshore as offensive coordinator. Coach Longshore is a former quarterback for the University of California, Berkeley and led the Golden Bears to a share of the Pac-10 Conference championship in 2006. He is Cal's all-time wins leader.

Coach Longshore previously coached football at Santa Margarita Catholic High School, helping the Eagles to a No. 1 national ranking and California Div. 1 state championship. He has also worked as a counselor for Elite 11, a competition for elite high school quarterbacks. There, he worked with future NFL quarterbacks Andrew Luck, Mike Glennon, E.J. Manuel and Blaine Gabbert. He also operates a web-based training program for quarterbacks.

Coach Longshore served as head of football at EON Sports, a leading provider of virtual reality-based sports training. He and Mr. Bendzick see the potential to tap his expertise to bring VR training opportunities to the Tartan Athletics.

"The use of virtual reality is a mainstay at the professional level, and we feel it will provide our athletes a significant advantage," Mr. Bendzick said. "It's an exciting opportunity, and Coach Longshore's expertise in the field is an invaluable resource."
