Middle School Celebrates Random Acts of Kindness During Themed Week

The week served as a reminder to Middle School students about the positive impact they can have on one another through their words and actions.
There were high fives everywhere, compliments passed around, and even flowers circulating around the campus.

Amidst their studies, St. Margaret’s Middle School students dedicated a week in pursuit of a character trait central to the school’s core values: kindness.

The Random Acts of Kindness Week featured themed days starting with a “pay five meaningful compliments” day and finishing with a “high five” day. In between, there was an ice cream social, a day with pay-it-forward flowers passed around, and a day dedicated to making new friends.

“Our focus on kindness was a reminder to Middle School students about the impact they can have on one another through their words and actions,” Middle School Principal Jeannine Clarke said. “During adolescence when students are finding their voice and building stronger bonds with their social groups, a focus on the importance of being kind is pivotal.”

The Random Acts of Kindness Week follows Head of School Will Moseley’s 40-day kindness challenge during the holiday season, which encouraged the St. Margaret’s community to share a random act of kindness each day between Thanksgiving and the New Year—and to make it a daily habit in their lives.

Character and community are among St. Margaret’s core values, and emphasize moral integrity, compassion, teamwork and mutual respect as guided by Episcopal traditions.
