St. Margaret’s Students Selected to Participate in CAIS Honors Music Festival

St. Margaret’s students were selected to perform in the California Association of Independent Schools Honors Music Festival last week, with 11 Tartans participating in either the concert band or concert choir. The event took place at Viewpoint School in Calabasas.

The CAIS Honors Music Festival gives select music students the opportunity to perform challenging music in a friendly environment, working with master conductors and teachers. St. Margaret’s students were joined by musicians from 10 other independent schools.

The St. Margaret’s students participating were senior Dalen Thomas, senior Jadie Pruitt, freshman Alexis Woods and sophomore Nathan Soto in the concert choir, and sophomore Alexandra Pierce (flute), freshman Chloe Abracosa (clarinet), sophomore Brayden Windes (tenor sax), freshman Julia Schulze (baritone sax), sophomore Daniel Lew (trumpet), sophomore Marek Magana (trumpet) and freshman Brendan Kong (trombone) in the concert band.

The students were nominated by St. Margaret’s faculty and then selected by festival administrators based on instrumentation and repertoire. The students met their ensemble just 24 hours before the performance, going through two intense rehearsal sessions ahead of time.

“I love meeting people that have the same passion as I do,” Jadie said. “The director was really interesting, and thought about music in a similar way to me, which was fun.”
