When Independent School Magazine heard about the interesting ethnographic research St. Margaret’s faculty and staff were engaged in for the implementation of the Strategic Plan, they reached out to Assistant Head of School for Strategic Initiatives Ryan Dahlem to learn more. The quarterly magazine of the National Association of Independent Schools, serving more than 1,800 private schools, tapped Mr. Dahlem to recount insights for an “Online Exclusive” from this personal form of data gathering that is providing an important voice to students in the work of the Strategic Plan. Read Mr. Dahlem’s article for Independent School Magazine, “Using Student Shadow Days for Ethnographic Research,” that details his days alongside a 3-year-old St. Margaret’s Preschool student and an Upper School senior, along with the shadow days of other school leaders, and the many important revelations and significant outcomes.
