VIDEO: Tartans Present Their App Creations During Showcase at UCI

Students met over 10 weeks to design and code a mobile game, working in teams of four or five to brainstorm ideas, delegate tasks and execute their design.
An after-school program dedicated to creating mobile game apps concluded last month, as 10 St. Margaret’s students grades 5-8 presented their work at a showcase on the campus of the University of California, Irvine.

The program, called AppJam+, was a partnership between St. Margaret’s, UC Irvine and Dreams for School. Students met over 10 weeks to design and code a mobile game, working in teams of four or five to brainstorm ideas, delegate tasks and execute their design. They were guided by three UC Irvine undergraduates studying computer science.

The St. Margaret’s teams created games called “Puff Saver” and “Math Royale” that used math questions to advance in levels. The apps used technical components like image sprites, sounds, animation and collision detection.
