Homecoming is Sweet for Tartans, Squeeze Orange Vista 50-6

The Tartans rattled off 50 unanswered points in the Homecoming victory Friday night.
Before a rambunctious home crowd, the Tartans captured the Academy League title with a 50-6 win over Orange Vista High of Perris Friday night.
 
Quarterback James Mott was 9/12 with 303 yards and four touchdowns while running back Marcus Knight added 12 carries for 128 yards with three rushing touchdowns and one two-point conversion. Receivers Ryan Cragun (4/190 three TD) and Roger Penske (3/55 one TD) rounded out the scoring for the Tartans.
 
Defensively, the Tartans were led by Max Martinez ( five tackles, three assists, three tackles for a loss and one fumble recovery), Duke Ballard (six tackles and seven assists) and Langston Sholl (four tackles and three assists). Linebacker Caden Smith had a big night with three tackles, four assists, two tackles for a loss and one sack while defensive backs Nick Falshaw and Nick Sanchez added an interception each.
 
Special teams featured in the win with kickers Christopher Vartanian and Cameron Shirangi perfect on the split PAT duties. Vartanian also recovered his onside kick in the first quarter.
 
With the victory, the Tartans captured their first Academy League Championship since 2015 and await the CIF Southern Section Playoff draw to be announced Sunday morning.
