Tartans Roll, Defeat St. Pius X - St. Matthias 54-0

The Tartans were unstoppable behind Ryan Cragun's five touchdown performance against the St. Pius X- St. Matthias Warriors on Friday night.
It seemed as if senior Ryan Cragun never left the field in the Tartan's 54-0 drubbing of Academy League newcomer St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy Friday night on the road. Cragun contributed close to 400 total yards including a 100-yard interception return, 139 yards receiving and a 66-yard punt return for a touchdown. Cragun connected with quarterback James Mott (16/32 271 yds 5 TD) for three receiving touchdowns on the night. Running back Marcus Knight (8/50 rushing) and receiver Will Kenner each notched a touchdown through the air.

The defensive clean sheet was preserved by the stellar play of senior lineman Max Martinez who recorded five tackles, five assists, one sack and two tackles for a loss. Ryan Cragun (three tackles, three assists) and Duke Ballard (three tackles, three assists, one tackle for loss) each returned an interception for a touchdown. Roger Penske (two tackles, two assists, one sack, one tackle for loss), Langston Sholl (two tackles, two assists) and Marcus Knight (fumble recovery) rounded out the Tartan's defensive effort.

Kicker Chris Vartanian made field position a constant issue for the Warriors with six touchbacks on the night. Vartanian and Cameron Shirangi split kicking duties, combining for six successful PAT's.

The Tartans return to Tartan Field on Friday, October 6 to face Grace Brethren. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
