Lower School Teacher David Beshk Honored for STEM Initiatives

The award is given to “teachers who inspire students in the math, science and engineering fields.”
St. Margaret’s grade 5 teacher David Beshk was named a recipient of the William Dahlgren Teacher of Excellence Award by the SAMPE Foundation this week. The award is given to “teachers who inspire students in the math, science and engineering fields.”

The award was presented at Lower School chapel Monday by Joseph Ingalls, educational consultant for the SAMPE Foundation and a former Upper School teacher at St. Margaret’s who Mr. Beshk considers a mentor.

Mr. Beshk was nominated by St. Margaret’s Academic Dean Jeneen Graham, who noted that “David shows his passion for student learning through his tireless lesson planning, patient instruction and innovative pedagogical approaches.”

Mr. Beshk has developed cutting-edge STEM programs for St. Margaret’s summer and after-school programs, including instruction related to rocketry, the physics of roller coasters and animal prosthetics. He is moving into a role as St. Margaret’s Lower School science teacher starting next school year.

SAMPE, short for Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering, is a global professional member society that provides information on new materials and processing technology, providing a unique and valuable forum for scientists, engineers and academicians.

Earlier this year, Mr. Beshk was named the top teacher in Orange County for 2017 by Parenting OC Magazine for his STEM education work, and was featured on the cover of the March issue.
