Tartan Tennis Bests Long Beach Poly in CIF-SS Second Round

The Tartans relied on their top performers to outlast a talented Jackrabbit squad 86-73.
St. Margaret's started strong with two doubles matches that went to tiebreakers and unfortunately lost both of them. Down four in the first round, they were not discouraged and played extremely well.

Fighting back, and even winning a tiebreaker in doubles, they took three matches in the second round to close the gap. In the final round, the Tartans didn't give an inch and evened the score at 90.

The Tartans eventually won on games (86 to 73) due to great performances by Elyse Talley and Izzy Oedekerk. Talley won all of her matches 6-0 and only dropped a single game the entire afternoon.

The match of the day came in the last round with Natalie Kowal playing her best tennis of year as she defeated the number one player from Long Beach Poly 6-4 to close out the match.

Riley Parkhill and Catherine Landaas also had strong showings; winning two of their three doubles matches. Their only loss was in a close tiebreaker to Long Beach Poly's top team.

St. Margaret's will face Palos Verdes High School on the road in the CIF Southern Section Quarter Finals on Monday, November 7.
