Middle School Fall Teams Serve and Run to League Titles
It’s been a busy, fun and exciting fall sports season for our middle school teams.
It’s been a busy, fun and exciting fall sports season for our middle school teams. Chalmers Field offered our flag football teams a venue that compares to no other in the league and with that there were many high-level league games played in front of the home crowd. At times we even had the high school team take a break from practice and make their way over to cheer on our teams. Coach Marmelstein had an undefeated season going 18-0 as both his Canyon “A” and Mountain “B” teams captured league titles. The Canyon ‘A” team had a strong season as several of their games were decided after the first quarter with a balanced effort on both offense and defense. The Mountain “B” team had a similar path with close games against Serra Catholic and St. Anne’s but once again the contribution for the entire team pushed them on to victory.
With three 7th and 8th grade St. Margaret’s teams in the same Valley “A’ league, each of our G Block games against one another were close, and the boys had fun playing against their classmates. Coach Estipular’s and Lakeman’s teams only posted one loss all season and came away with the Valley League title.
Coach Beitner’s team showed great improvement throughout the season and came away with some good quality wins while staying competitive in each and every game.
Coach Taylor’s “A” team played in the always competitive Mountain League and with a record of 9-1 tying for first place in the county’s top league this season. That team, along with the Canyon “A” team will begin playoffs next week in hopes of playing well and finishing strong.
Our volleyball teams also were in contention for every league title all the way up until the last week of the season which made for some high quality and exciting matches. Coach Maga’s team played in a Mountain League that had more balance this year than seen in several years. Many matches went to three games, and even those games came down to the wire. With a third place showing in the St. Barbara Tournament and a second place finish in the league, the team is looking strong as they head to playoffs next week. Coach J-Rich’s team will also participate in playoffs after coming in a strong second place in the Canyon “A” league as they are playing very good volleyball which could prove promising in the playoff tournament.
Our Valley “B” 6th-grade volleyball teams were very evenly matched with the league title coming down to a very exciting three game match in the last game of the season. Coach Fava’s team came away with the 15-11 win, but there sure were smiles by all after the game as the girls loved playing against their own schoolmates on the other side of the net. The Mountain “B” team placed second in their league with many three set matches that made for some exciting volleyball throughout the season.
Our cross country team participated in several meets this season that culminated in the always fun Red vs. Blue meet down at Salt Creek with the Blue Team coming away with the victory. The team also makes its annual Harbor smoothie run to finish off the season in the longer team run down to Dana Point Harbor.
As the fall season concludes, we wish our teams good luck in the upcoming playoffs and now look ahead to continue the great effort from our student-athletes as they move on to their winter sports.
