PHOTOS: Tartan Artists Honored at Upper School Arts Awards

The 2023 Upper School Arts Awards was a year-end culminating event celebrating the accomplishments of talented Upper School student-artists.
The Arts at St. Margaret’s presented the 2023 US Arts Awards in Hurlbut Theater, a year-end culminating event celebrating the accomplishments of talented Upper School student-artists.

Arts faculty presented medals to the seniors who have contributed to each of the visual and performing arts disciplines. Other individual awards were presented to students of all grade levels. As Director of Performing Arts Dan Pacheco said, “Arts education is about the journey, and the artists we recognize have excelled throughout their artistic journeys here in the Arts at St. Margaret’s.”

Visual arts department chair Jesse Standlea began the evening by presenting the 3D visual arts awards. Mr. Standlea shared that, “This event allows us to celebrate talented students who have shown commitment in the arts. In addition, we celebrate the idea that the point is to be in that wonderful state which makes art inevitable, to be in a state that both brings us joy and feeds our soul.”

Following awards in 2D visual arts by Phillip Griswold and digital photography by Regina Stehney, the visual art faculty presented a new award, the Arts Legacy Award to two recipients followed by the annual Illumination Award.

The performing arts portion of the program began with the technical arts by Gordon Richins. Music faculty presented awards in band, orchestra and choir before Kirsten Harvey presented dance awards. Mr. Pacheco recognized the 2021-2022 Cappies Critics team and celebrated achievements in the performing arts and drama program. The performing arts faculty then presented the Triple Threat Award.

After a slideshow recognizing 41 seniors who have been involved in the Arts, the evening concluded with a dessert reception in the Cloobeck Family Atrium.
