St. Margaret's Swim Makes a Splash at Season-Opening Events

The Tartans enjoyed fast times and stiff competition to start the season.
St. Margaret’s swim program opened the 2023 campaign this past week, facing off against league opponent Saddleback High School. The Tartans delivered a split result, with the girls squad prevailing 102-31 and the boys team suffering a very close 56-70 defeat.
 
On the girls side, the Tartans were victorious in every event entered. Zoe Reynolds notched wins in the 200 and 500 freestyle events, while Heidi Tufo finished first in the 100 fly and 200 individual medley. Both earned CIF consideration times in their events. Eden Harrington (1st in 100 freestyle, 2nd in 200 freestyle), Claire Martin (1st in 100 breaststroke, 2nd in 200 IM) and Lucy Young (1st in 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke) contributed to the Tartan win. In addition, the 200 medley team of Claire Martin, Natalia Garcia, Nixie Pedraza and Eden Harrington swam to a first place finish in the event.
 
For the boys, Daniel Lyons (1st in 200 and 500 freestyle) and Archer Spindle (1st in 50 freestyle and 100 fly) swam to CIF consideration times in their respective events. The 200 free relay squad of Lyons, Spindel, Levon Alyanakian and Alejandro Turnbull finished first and qualified for CIF consideration.
 
On March 2, the girls team competed at the Capistrano Valley Relays with Zoe Reynolds (100 freestyle), Heidi Tufo (100 fly) and the 200 medley/400 fly relay squad of Reynolds, Tufo, Lucy Young and Rainbow Li all swimming to personal bests and CIF consideration times.
 
The Tartans next face Sage Hill School on Friday, March 3.
