Tartan Boys Golf and Tennis Teams Pick Up Early-Season Wins
St. Margaret's spring sports are in full swing.
Boys Golf
St. Margaret's boys golf program opened the 2023 campaign with a 205-232 win against Capistrano Valley Christian School on Tuesday at San Juan Hills Golf Course.
Senior Keegan Carnell led the Tartans with two birdies and an impressive final score of 35 (-1). Sophomore Jack McGrory finished with a three above par score of 39, followed by Quinn Kyle (43 +7), Cameron Danz (44 +8), Roy Cheng (44 +8), and Mike He (44 +8).
Up next for St. Margaret's is a trip to Chino Hills for the Ontario Christian Invitational.
Boys Tennis
The Tartans came away with a 10-8 win over hosts Newport Harbor High School Tuesday, notching their first win of the season.
St. Margaret's doubles squads (Dawson Mai/Cole Roberts and Daniel Cai/Justin Qiao) each won all three of their sets to keep the Tartans ahead of the Sailors. Dillan Grover won two singles sets, including the clinching set to make it 10-8 Tartans.
"It was a good first match of the season for us against a strong Newport Harbor team," said head coach Scott Lipsky. "The boys played hard and were able to win some close sets, which got us over the finish line. I am excited to see how they all progress throughout the season."
