St. Margaret's Lacrosse Programs Off to a Quick Start
Both boys and girls lacrosse opened their seasons with wins this week.
Boys Lacrosse
The Tartans hit the road to take on San Marcos High School and delivered a convincing 16-4 win Tuesday evening.
St. Margaret's was led by Austin Hicks' six points on three goals and three assists and Owen Binder's five points on four goals and one assist against the Knights. Connor McKenna (2g, 2a), Andrew Toubin (3g, 1a) and Adam Horcasitas (2g, 2a) kept St. Margaret's comfortably ahead all evening, with Johnny Iavarone (2g, 1a) rounding out the scoring. Goaltender Bailey Clark made three saves in the win.
"It was great to see our guys have a good early season performance on the road," said head coach Brian Kelly. "We played well in all facets of the game and hope to carry that momentum into our game this Friday.”
The Tartans are 2-0 on the season and take on St. Francis on the road on Friday, March 3, at 7 p.m.
Girls Lacrosse
St. Margaret's notched a season-opening 14-8 win Tuesday against visiting JSerra Catholic High School on Tartan Field.
Minka Martinez (4g), Grace Burke (4g), Lauren Lam (3g), Scarlett Welsome (2g) and Claire Cho (1g) tamed the Lions all game. Goaltender Kaitlin McRae shut down the JSerra shooters, recording 7 saves on 15 shots.
"We dominated the draw and had an impressive 42 ground balls," said head coach Megan Armes. "Overall, we were successful because we played as a collective unit. Our player of the game was Scarlett Welsome!"
The 1-0 Tartans will next face Crescenta Valley at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, on Tartan Field.
