Tartan Soccer Programs Set for Postseason Action

St. Margaret's looks to make deep runs in the CIF Playoffs.
St. Margaret's soccer teams battled for league supremacy this winter and are prepared to make a showing in the CIF-SS playoffs.

Boys Soccer

The Tartans defeated Orange High School 3-1 Monday evening to wrap up an Orange Coast League campaign at 6-5.

St. Margaret's opened the scoring early with a Keyon Namdar goal at the 2-minute mark, assisted by his brother Ryan. Five minutes later, Keyon found the net again to establish a 2-0 Tartan lead.

The Panthers responded in the second half with a goal in the 42nd minute and pressed the Tartans further. Nathaniel Kim put the game out of reach with a late goal at 57 minutes. Goalkeeper Mason Allison kept the Tartans in control all match, recording three saves.

"Last night was a special night for a number of reasons," said head coach Bryan Wallace. "Our program recognized the eight senior players and capped a tough league season with a win. Six seniors played a role in tonight's win, but all eight were instrumental in securing a CIF berth."

Girls Soccer

St. Margaret's squeezed Orange for a 3-0 win on the road and through inclement weather Monday evening, improving to 9-2 in league competition.

Lexi Bullock got the Tartans on the board with a shot to the top corner, well out of the goalkeeper's reach, to make it 1-0. Bullock then assisted the Tartans' second score with a difficult cross to Charlotte Quintanar, who redirected it past the Panther keeper midway through the first half. Avery Ainsworth capped the Tartans scoring with a calm and collected finish of a cross at the six-yard box. Goalkeeper Riley Long kept the clean sheet and the defense organized despite wet and cold conditions.

"We are excited to head into our last match of the regular season this Thursday at Estancia," said head coach Jenny Anderson-Hammond. "We have come off two massive wins against Estancia at home last Thursday and playing at Orange yesterday afternoon, and we are ready to get started with postseason play."
