St. Margaret’s Class of 2023 Has Strong Start to College Admissions Process

The senior class has worked closely with St. Margaret’s College Counseling Office to navigate the college-admissions process, identify potential fits and put forward their best application during early admissions.
The Class of 2023 at St. Margaret’s has applied to colleges and universities around the world during the early admission period—and 86 percent of the seniors have already received an acceptance letter.

It’s a strong start for the class, which has worked closely with St. Margaret’s College Counseling Office to navigate the college-admissions process, identify potential fits and put forward their best application during early admissions.

St. Margaret’s 113 seniors submitted more than 1,500 early applications, including binding early decision, non-binding early action and rolling decision applications. Ninety-eight students have received an acceptance letter.

Of the 113 seniors, 18 have been admitted as binding early-decision applicants. They will attend top schools across the country, including Carnegie Mellon University, Colby College, Dartmouth College, Dickinson College, Duke University, Emory University, Johns Hopkins University, Lehigh University, Loyola Marymount University, McDaniel College, Northeastern University, Pomona College, Swarthmore College, Tufts University, The University of Chicago, The University of Pennsylvania, Washington University in St. Louis, and Williams College.

In addition, St. Margaret’s students have already received non-binding acceptances to many top schools, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, California Institute of Technology, Princeton University, Stanford University, Pennsylvania State University, Texas A&M University and the University of Notre Dame.

St. Margaret’s also had five student-athletes sign to play intercollegiate athletics during the fall signing period, and nine more will sign during the winter signing period.

Among the early acceptances, Ella Etchandy applied to Duke University early-decision and was accepted.

“Along with the top-tier academics, resources and research available at Duke University, I loved the tight-knit community between faculty and students, something I felt replicated a similar feel to St. Margaret's,” Ella said. “In addition, I deeply admired the school spirit and pride evident on the Duke campus, whether it was through the sports or how highly alumni spoke of the school. I knew without a doubt that there was no other school that fit my interests and desires to be at a balanced, rigorous school, which is why I felt confident to ED here.”

The College Counseling Office—which includes Director of College Counseling Elise Rodriguez, Senior Associate Director of College Counseling Amy Warren, Associate Director of College Counseling Erica Huerta, and College Counseling Assistant Liz Kelly—have worked hard to support the Class of 2023 as they embark on the process. The office arranged more than 150 visits with representatives from colleges and universities around the world, in addition to one-on-one meetings with each senior, an enhanced curriculum including workshops during the school day, and arranging writing specialists to assist students as they fine-tune their essays.

The college admissions process is ongoing, as some early applications are still awaiting a response. Admissions decisions will continue to roll in until April, with Class of 2023 students making their final commitment by May.
