Middle School Spelling Bee Spotlights Talented Tartan Spellers

Eleven students in grades 6-8 spelled challenging words like architrave, extraneous and misericords.
Successfully spelling challenging words like architrave, extraneous and misericords, St. Margaret’s had 11 Middle School students show off their spelling talents last week during the annual Middle School Spelling Bee inside Hurlbut Theater.

The initial participation of 11 students made its way down to just two, before grade 7 student Grace Ma finally outlasted grade 6 student Isabella Huang and took the crown. Grace finished with the correct spelling of the word “solidarity” after going back and forth for several rounds with Isabella spelling words correctly in an entertaining head-to-head contest.

For winning the Middle School Spelling Bee, Grace qualifies to take part in the written portion of the Orange County Spelling Bee in February.

In addition to Grace and Isabella, the Spelling Bee featured grade 6 students Sasha Rain Anderson, Hinnah McGuane and Meya Lei; grade 7 students Gloria Zhou and Jessica Liu; and grade 8 students Charlotte Burch, Riley Bredall, Jason Huang and Steven Wang.

Congratulations to all the talented Tartan spellers!
