Tartan Girls Basketball Continues to Roll Through Orange Coast League
St. Margaret's improved to 5-1 in league with a win over Costa Mesa.
St. Margaret's girls basketball again relied on stalwart defense to down visiting Costa Mesa, 53-14, on Thursday night.
Harper Gideons' 14 points, including four three-pointers, led the Tartans, while Lila Wohlgemuth (12 pts.) and Kaitlin Tam (10 pts.) secured the home-court win.
Defensively, the Tartans were almost untouchable, with Sophia Gazzaniga bringing down eight rebounds, Taylor Francois contributing six steals and seven rebounds and Addie West notching eight steals against the Mustangs.
"Our girls are doing a great job focusing on defensive details. This is the second game in a row that they did not allow a field goal in the first quarter of play. They continue to play off of each other defensively and trust each other on the offensive end," said head coach Josh Markum. "It is a really fun group to be around, and they are beginning to find their stride at the right time of year. There is still a lot of work to be done, but they continue to improve daily."
With an eye towards the upcoming postseason, The Tartans will look to continue their winning ways by taking on Santa Ana High School at home on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 6:30 p.m.
