Upper School Senior Presents at National Social Media Webinar
 
Upper School senior Mari Edler was one of three featured student speakers last month on a webinar organized by The Social Institute, a health and well-being technology partner of St. Margaret’s which champions digital citizenship and responsible social media use.
 
Mari was featured in a presentation titled “Reflecting on 2022: What students wish adults knew about issues impacting their learning and well-being” which explored effective and ineffective ways schools approach student well-being, social media education and current events.
 
Mari serves as a content and writing committee leader for The Social Institute.
 
 
3 Tartans Recognized Among Orange County Register’s 125 Most Influential People
 
Three St. Margaret’s students were among the 125 Orange County residents recognized by the Orange County Register as “people who made the county special” in 2022.
 
Upper School junior Levon Alyanakian was recognized for his work setting up “Little Free Libraries” in Armenia, where he visits relatives every summer. Last summer Levon packed seven suitcases full of books and set up 30 mini library boxes around the country, mostly in areas with no local libraries and limited access to books. Also recognized were Upper School sophomore Jackson Collins and grade 8 student Sawyer Collins, who designed Christmas ornaments of the iconic Laguna Beach lifeguard tower and the Laguna Beach trolley, selling them in local stores and on their website. The brothers then donated proceeds from sales to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, which rescues and rehabilitates local marine mammals. Their service project has been featured in both the Orange County Register and the Los Angeles Times.
 
 
Upper School Student Writes Book to Help Young Writers
 
Upper School junior Ciara Robertson was profiled in the Capistrano Dispatch in the fall after she wrote a book designed to help younger students develop their love of writing. The book, titled Rising Writers: A Young Author’s Guide to Creative Writing, is available to download for free at risingwriters.org.
